Well... when a new band comes along, you gotta listen to at least one album, eh?
The Seaside in particular intrigued me due to it's artsy-fartsy album cover, featuring what is likely a silkscreen print of Jim Smith next to a pattern of coloured stripes. Doing some more research, it's actually a... demo album? Why was it officially released by the ABC then? Is this the life? Is this the iron age?
...okay, jokes aside, I have a feeling it's because they actually had the budget for decent recording equipment... which didn't appear to be the case in their first two demo albums, The Obvious Identity and Toy World. They were apparently recorded in a private recording studio in London with the DIY ethic in mind, when Tim had very little cash to invest in the project. Anyhoo, what was I originally on about again..? Oh, the Seaside.
The first track of the lot. I like how it starts off with some... I don't know what you'd call it. Ambience? For a minute, it's like you're in some spaceship... then the actual track kicks in, which I suppose fits into a type of punk where EVERYTHING is going on. It hits you like a truck. I have no idea how to describe it, but it's great!
Here we go into more "pop" territory. The song is named after high-profile Italian actress (and sex symbol) Gina Lollobrigida (IN CASE THAT WASN'T OBVIOUS LOL). I don't know much about her, and I don't really think the song has anything to do with her. It does namedrop a few films I've never heard of. None of which she actually appears in. Onto the actual track, which is what I'm supposed to blabber about... I think it's good! It's definitely one of their more conventional tracks, I'll say that. But it's still Cardiacs.
That's my ringtone! It's been my ringtone since a couple weeks after I got my new phone, actually! I love the beginning riff especially, I think it tells you all you need to know. Don't know why there's a subtle burp right before it starts... Oh, wait, I know. It's because it's Cardiacs. Anyways, track is pretty good.
